Dr. Ferguson-Young previously served as the Director of the General Practice Residency Program at Meharry Medical College, School of Dentistry, where she was a General Dentist and Professor from 1998 to 2021. Dr. Ferguson-Young also held the prestigious role of the 100th President of the American Association of Women Dentists from 2019 to 2022.
During her 15-year tenure as a Professor at Meharry Medical College, School of Dentistry Dr. Ferguson-Young held numerous leadership positions and served on various faculty governance committees, significantly contributing to the institution’s academic mission. Before transitioning to academia, she maintained a successful private dental practice in Murfreesboro, TN, and worked as a staff dentist at the Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center.
Dr. Young’s dedication extends to her long-standing involvement with the National Dental Association (NDA), where she served as a Trustee and a member in the House of Delegates. Dr. Young also contributes to global dental health to the citizens of Jamaica, the Jamaica Awareness Association of California (JAAC), and the Links, Inc. Dr. Ferguson-Young dedicated ten years to serving on the Governing Board of the Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center.
Dr. Ferguson-Young earned her Bachelor of Science degree from North Carolina A&T State University and her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) and Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) degrees from Meharry Medical College. She completed a Hospital Dentistry Residency at Meharry Medical College’s Hubbard Hospital and later graduated from the ADEA Leadership Institute Fellowship program in 2011. In recognition of her professional excellence and contributions to dentistry, she was inducted into the American College of Dentists in 2013.

She is a leader and advocate in the field of dentistry and her contributions continue to inspire and drive advancements in dental health and education.
