The Colgate/National Dental Association Foundation Audacity to Dream Scholarship program was created to recognized some our most talented rising dentists, and help alleviate the cost burden of their education.
This program is a direct commitment by Colgate to increase the awareness of the challenges faced in Black America as it pertains to education and beyond. Scholars will be chosen with awards ranging from $10,000 to $20,000. Categories for awards will include Leadership, Community Service, Research and overall awards.

The rigorous application process will help highlight the amazing talent that lies within the Student National Dental Association. Awards will be given at the Annual SNDA Rights of Passage Gala, held during the Annual National Dental Association Convention.

Must be a current D1, D2 or D3 student at the time of application with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent). Academic awards and recognition will be considered. Applicants are required to upload a transcript that displays their name, school name, classes taken, and GPA. Please see below for further requirements.

Criteria


  • -Official Dental School Transcript showing a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade point average

  • -Four (4) letters of recommendation are required (Family members, relatives, and students are not eligible to submit a recommendation). One letter must be from your Dean or Dean of Students speaking to your academic performance, and one letter must be from your SNDA advisor speaking to your involvement. One recommendation must be from one of your dental school faculty. The final letter may come from anyone of your choice. Letters of recommendation will be heavily weighed.

  • -You must be an active SNDA Member, with proper local and National documentation from your local chapter. Your Membership must be in good standing throughout the review process and for the awarding academic year.

  • -Submit curriculum vitae, including your professional school achievements (not to exceed three pages).

  • -Attend the SNDA Rights of Passage Gala the year of your application.

  • -Participate in a video interview

  • -Submit a short video explaining why you think you are the most outstanding dental student in the country.

Write a short essay answering the following questions in 500 words or less:


  • 1. How have your diverse experiences built your empathy toward others, your resilience, your character, and your perspective?
  • 2. How would these funds assist you in your education/professional pursuits?
  • 3. The NDAF prides itself on investing in our next generation of oral health leaders. As the recipient of this award, what can our organization expect from you as a return for our investment?

The Audacity To Dream Leadership Award ($5,000)

 

Must be a current D1, D2 or D3 student at the time of application with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent). Academic awards and recognition will be considered. Applicants are required to upload a transcript that displays their name, school name, classes taken, and GPA. Please see below for further requirements.


  • -Official Dental School Transcript showing a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average.

  • -Summary of any or all leadership positions that you have held or participated in within your local SNDA chapter, National SNDA or individually.

  • -Provide an essay, in 500 words or less, outlining your view of what it means to be a leader in accordance with the spirit of the National Dental Association Foundation’s mission and core values.

  • -Provide an essay, in 500 words or less, outlining your involvement as a leader in SNDA, and how has your efforts propelled your chapter or region to succeed. Also, include how your leadership skills will help the SNDA to NDA pipeline; how you plan to contribute to your dental school and as a practicing dentist; and how your character and leadership experience is evident by selecting one of the following leadership traits (Courage, Humanity, Justice, Temperment, Wisdom or Transcendence)

  • -Attend the SNDA Rights of Passage Gala the year of your application.

  • -Two (2) recommendations are required (Family members, relatives, and students are not eligible to submit a recommendation). One letter must be from a dental school faculty member.

  • -You must be an active SNDA Member, with proper local and National documentation from your local chapter. Your Membership must be in good standing throughout the review process and for the awarding academic year.

The Audacity To Dream Research Award ($5,000)

 

Must be a current D1, D2 or D3 student at the time of application with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent).

Academic awards and recognition will be considered. Applicants are required to upload a transcript that displays their name, school name, classes taken, and GPA. Please see below for further requirements.

 

  • -Official Dental School Transcript showing a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average.

  • -Summary of any or all research activities that you have participated in. Please include any papers, abstracts, posters or lecture presentations that you have given. This summary shall include all research activities from undergraduate studies, dental school and/or graduate school.

  • -Provide an essay, in 500 words or less, outlining your view of dental research in accordance with the spirit of the National Dental Association Foundation’s mission and core values.

  • -Provide a brief outline, in 500 words or less, describing your current research activities and/or project. Please include your role in the project and any publications that you had an active role in.

  • -Attend the SNDA Rights of Passage Gala the year of your application.

  • -Two (2) recommendations are required (Family members, relatives, and students are not eligible to submit a recommendation). One letter must be from your research advisor.

  • -You must be an active SNDA Member, with proper local and National documentation from your local chapter. Your Membership must be in good standing throughout the review process and for the awarding academic year

The Audacity To Dream Community Service Award ($5,000)

Must be a current D1, D2 or D3 student at the time of application with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent).

Academic awards and recognition will be considered. Applicants are required to upload a transcript that displays their name, school name, classes taken, and GPA. Please see below for further requirements.

 

  • -Official Dental School Transcript showing a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average.

  • -Summary of any or all community service projects that you have organized or participated in within your local SNDA chapter or individually.

  • -Create a 2-5 minute video scrapbook of your most recent community service project.

  • -Describe, in 500 words or less, a potential community service program that could be executed by SNDA or NDA in the future.

  • -Provide an essay, in 500 words or less, outlining your social and behavioral status in accordance with the spirit of the National Dental Association Foundation’s mission and core values.

  • -Attend the SNDA Rights of Passage Gala the year of your application.

  • -Two (2) letters of recommendations are required. Family members, relatives, and students are not eligible to submit a recommendation. One letter must be from a dental school faculty member.
