One $10,000 and one $20,000 scholarship will be awarded

The Colgate/National Dental Association Foundation Audacity to Dream Scholarship program was created to recognized some our most talented rising dentists, and help alleviate the cost burden of their education.
This program is a direct commitment by Colgate to increase the awareness of the challenges faced in Black America as it pertains to education and beyond. Scholars will be chosen with awards ranging from $5,000 to $20,000. Categories for awards will include Leadership, Community Service, Research and overall awards.

The rigorous application process will help highlight the amazing talent that lies within the Student National Dental Association. Awards will be given at the Annual SNDA Rights of Passage Gala, held during the Annual National Dental Association Convention.

Must be a current D1, D2 or D3 student at the time of application with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent). Academic awards and recognition will be considered. Applicants are required to upload a transcript that displays their name, school name, classes taken, and GPA. Please see below for further requirements.

Applications open March 1, 2024 and close May 31, 2024

Criteria


  • • Have a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average

  • • You must be an active SNDA member, with proper local and national documentation from your local chapter. Your membership must be in good standing throughout the review process and for the awarding academic year

  • • Attend the SNDA Rights of Passage Gala the year of your application.

  • • Official dental school transcript

    • Three letters of recommendation are required (family members, relatives, and students are not eligible to submit a recommendation). One letter must be from your Dean or Dean of Students speaking to your academic performance, and one letter must be from your SNDA advisor or current faculty member speaking to your involvement. The final letter may come from anyone of your choice. Letters of recommendation will be heavily weighed.

    • Submit a short video explaining why you think you are the most outstanding dental student in the country (not to exceed 5 minutes).

    • Write a short essay answering all the questions in 500 words or less:

  • A. How have your diverse experiences built your empathy toward others, your resilience, your character, and your perspective?
  •  
  • B. How would these funds assist you in your education/professional pursuits?

    C. The NDAF prides itself on investing in our next generation of oral health leaders. As the recipient of this award, what can our organization expect from you as a return for our investment?

    • Submit curriculum vitae, including your professional photo and school achievements (not to exceed three pages).

Criteria

• Have a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average. 

• Attend the SNDA Rights of Passage Gala the year of your application

 • You must be an active SNDA member, with proper local and national documentation from your local chapter. Your membership must be in good standing throughout the review process and for the awarding academic year.

  • • Letter from SNDA national or local President stating your current membership status.
  •  
  • • Two recommendation letters are required (family members, relatives, and students are not eligible to submit a recommendation). One letter must be from a dental school faculty member or SNDA advisor.
  •  
  • • Summary of leadership positions that you have held or participated in within your local SNDA chapter, national SNDA and as an individual.
  •  
  • • Write a short essay answering all the questions in 500 words or less:

  • A. Outlining your involvement as a leader in SNDA and how has your efforts propelled your chapter or region to succeed.
  •  
  • B. Share how your leadership skills will help the SNDA to NDA pipeline
  •  
  • C. Share how you plan to contribute to your dental school and as a practicing dentist;
  •  
  • D. How your character and leadership exhibit one of the following traits of courage, humanity, justice, temperament, wisdom or transcendence.

    E.  Provide an essay, in 500 words or less, outlining your view of what it means to be a leader in accordance with the spirit of the National Dental Association Foundation’s mission and core values.

Criteria

• Have a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average. 

• Attend the SNDA Rights of Passage Gala the year of your application

 • You must be an active SNDA member, with proper local and national documentation from your local chapter. Your membership must be in good standing throughout the review process and for the awarding academic year.

• Must be able to attend and present your research during both 2023 NDAF and NDAF/Colgate Research Days.

  • • Official dental school transcript
  •  
  • • Letter from SNDA national or local President stating your current membership status.
  •  
  • • Two recommendation letters are required (family members, relatives, and students are not eligible to submit a recommendation). One letter must be from your research advisor.
  •  
  • • Summary of any or all research activities that you have participated in. Please include any papers, abstracts, posters, or lecture presentations that you have given. This summary shall include all research activities from undergraduate studies, dental school and/or graduate school.
  •  
  • • Provide a brief outline, in 500 words or less, describing your current research activities and/or project. Please include your role in the project and any publications that you had an active role in.
  •  
  • • Provide an essay, in 500 words or less, outlining your view of dental research in accordance with the spirit of the National Dental Association Foundation’s mission and core values.
  •  
  • • Copy of Academic awards and recognitions.

Criteria

• Attend the SNDA Rights of Passage Gala the year of your application

 • You must be an active SNDA member, with proper local and national documentation from your local chapter. Your membership must be in good standing throughout the review process and for the awarding academic year.


Include with Application

  • • Official dental school transcript
  •  
  • • Letter from SNDA national or local President stating your current membership status.
  •  
  • • Two recommendation letters are required (family members, relatives, and students are not eligible to submit a recommendation). One letter must be from a dental school faculty member or SNDA advisor.

  • • Summary of all community service projects that you have organized or participated in within your local SNDA chapter, national SNDA and individually.
  •  
  • • Submit a 2-5 minute video scrapbook of your most recent community service project.
  •  
  • • Describe, in 500 words or less, a potential community service program that could be executed by SNDA or NDA in the future.
  •  
  • • Provide an essay, in 500 words or less, outlining your social and behavioral status in accordance with the spirit of the National Dental Association Foundation’s mission and core values.
